Senior Quantity Surveyor

About the Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading international engineering contractor delivering major mechanical, electrical and instrumentation (ME&I) projects across the UK and Europe.


Based on a high-profile energy infrastructure project in North Yorkshire, you will play a key role in managing the commercial and contractual aspects of large-scale construction projects from award through to final account.


This position offers the opportunity to work on technically complex projects within the energy, power, renewables, pharmaceutical, food & beverage and mission-critical sectors while joining a business with an established reputation for delivering engineering excellence.


The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will take ownership of the commercial delivery of your assigned projects, ensuring contractual compliance, cost control and commercial performance throughout the project lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

·      Manage all commercial and contractual requirements from project award through to completion.

·      Act as the primary commercial interface with the client and project stakeholders.

·      Lead procurement activities, including subcontractor selection and commercial management.

·      Undertake cost planning, forecasting and risk analysis.

·      Review contractual correspondence and manage commercial responses.

·      Administer subcontract accounts, valuations and payment applications.

·      Produce project cost reports, margin analysis and cashflow forecasts.

·      Manage change control procedures and negotiate variations with clients.

·      Prepare monthly valuations and commercial reports.

·      Negotiate and agree final accounts.

·      Support project teams in achieving commercial and contractual objectives.


About You

To be successful, you will have:

·      Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Economics.

·      Minimum of eight years’ experience in a Quantity Surveying role within M&E, building services or engineering construction.

·      Strong knowledge of commercial management and standard forms of contract.

·      Previous experience managing subcontractors and client-facing commercial activities.

·      Experience within electrical, civil, infrastructure or industrial construction projects.

·      Excellent commercial awareness and analytical skills.

·      Strong negotiation and stakeholder management abilities.

·      Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·      Previous experience leading or mentoring commercial team members.

·      Ability to work effectively within fast-paced project environments.
