Field Service Technician

Location: Texas-based within the Tri-City region (Dallas–Fort Worth, Austin, Houston) or Northern California. Primarily regional travel with nationwide travel as required.

Compensation: $30–$60 per hour (depending on experience)

About the Role

The Field Service Technician serves as the primary technical contact for customers and installation partners within the assigned territory.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting, repairing, commissioning, and maintaining residential solar and battery systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.

This position focuses on diagnostics, maintenance, and customer support rather than new system installations. Routine phone support is handled by a separate team. Candidates with strong electrical or mechanical field service backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain hybrid inverter and battery systems
  • Perform system commissioning, firmware updates, and configuration
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and performance testing
  • Troubleshoot AC/DC wiring, control systems, and communication networks (RS-485, Modbus, Wi-Fi)
  • Collaborate with engineering and technical support teams to resolve complex issues
  • Provide field training and technical support to installers and homeowners
  • Complete accurate service reports and documentation after each visit
  • Follow NEC, OSHA, and company safety standards
  • Travel frequently based on service demand (mileage reimbursement provided)
  • Provide onsite commissioning and customer training
  • Complete same-day onsite visits within reasonable driving distance and next-day visits for longer distances
  • Overnight travel may occasionally be required

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in electrical, solar, or mechanical field service
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety, wiring, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and single-line diagrams
  • Knowledge of AC/DC circuits, low-voltage controls, and networking systems
  • Familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures, PPE, and site safety protocols
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to travel to regional job sites
  • Comfortable working on rooftops, in confined spaces, and lifting up to 60 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrician License or equivalent field experience
  • Experience with residential battery storage systems
  • NABCEP PV Installation Professional or Energy Storage certification
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Strong customer-service and interpersonal skills
