Director of Business Development - Data Center
This role leads commercial growth initiatives within the data center market, focusing on advanced energy and power solutions for large-scale digital infrastructure. The Director of Business Development will originate and develop new opportunities, establish senior-level partnerships, and guide strategic market entry efforts across North America.
The ideal candidate combines market insight, technical credibility, and strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage hyperscale and colocation data center stakeholders on reliability, sustainability, and long-term energy strategy. This role plays a key part in positioning energy storage and distributed power solutions as core infrastructure assets for mission-critical facilities.
Core Responsibilities:
Define and lead market expansion strategies for energy solutions serving the data center sector.
Establish and manage executive-level relationships with data center owners, operators, EPC firms, infrastructure developers, and independent power providers.
Originate and advance commercial opportunities that improve power reliability, operational resilience, sustainability performance, and grid interaction.
Partner internally with engineering, product management, project delivery, and commercial teams to develop fit-for-purpose technical and commercial solutions.
Drive the development of proposals, commercial structures, and pricing strategies aligned with customer and market requirements.
Act as a visible market presence through participation in industry forums, conferences, and customer engagements (significant travel anticipated).
Track evolving market dynamics, policy drivers, and technology trends impacting data centers and energy infrastructure.
Experience & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
At least 5 years of professional experience, with prior exposure to data center ownership, operations, or development environments.
Strong working knowledge of data center power architectures, critical infrastructure design, and operational requirements.
Background in power systems, renewable generation, energy storage, electrical infrastructure, or industrial systems.
Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated success in managing customer relationships and navigating complex stakeholder environments.
Experience supporting commercial negotiations, power market strategy, or energy procurement initiatives is advantageous.
Familiarity with battery energy storage systems, power electronics, grid interconnection, or control platforms preferred.
Proficiency with standard business tools, including productivity software and customer relationship management platforms.
