Pre-sales Engineer

Pre-Sales Engineer - Battery / Energy Storage

This role seeks multiple Pre-Sales / Sales Engineers across several regions. The position reports into the technical sales function and supports the commercial team throughout the full project sales cycle.

Role Overview

The Pre-Sales Engineer (or Sales Engineer, depending on experience) is responsible for leading technical sales activities during the project pursuit phase. You will work closely with business development colleagues to secure integrated energy storage projects. Key tasks include managing technical design efforts, preparing responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), engaging with customers, and supporting contract negotiations.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years of experience in the energy storage sector, especially in battery technologies and market development, with strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.

A solid understanding of global power markets—including utility-scale renewables and energy storage—is essential, along with strong project and process management capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end RFP processes, including bidding strategy, value proposition development, partner coordination, and preparation of technical proposals for utility-scale energy storage projects.
  • Lead technical discussions with prospective customers during Q&A sessions and commercial negotiations.
  • Develop system designs including high-level and detailed drawings, layouts, and schematics.
  • Specify major system components, perform rating and quantity calculations, and produce accurate bills of materials for estimating purposes.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering teams and external equipment providers to understand product functionality and identify optimal solutions for project applications.
  • Support development of software model architectures for various energy storage system configurations, grid-connected systems, and standalone applications.
  • Use value-based engineering approaches to tailor solutions to customer needs.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree (BS/MS/PhD) in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Experience with energy storage and renewable energy technologies, including bi-directional inverters, battery chemistries, solar PV, wind, or mechanical storage technologies.
  • Understanding of utility-scale project development, especially interconnection processes and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with industrial controls, SCADA systems, single-line diagrams, mechanical layouts, and electrical schematics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to produce high-quality technical proposals; additional languages are a plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent design software.
  • Knowledge of relevant regional standards (e.g., UL, IEEE, IEC, NEC, CE).
  • Experience with utility systems, generator interconnection requirements, and grid/dynamic modelling tools (e.g., PSSE, PSLF, ETAP).
  • Background in medium-voltage AC system design or construction is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced, evolving markets.
  • Strong sense of ownership and commitment to delivering results.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25–40%.
  • Existing relationships with EPCs, developers, or independent power producers are beneficial.
